About ColorStudio

ColorStudio is a free, browser-based project dedicated to one craft: helping people choose colors with confidence. From a developer building a brand palette to a designer checking WCAG contrast ratios to a hobbyist learning why complementary colors clash, our tools and articles exist to make color theory practical rather than intimidating.

Our Mission

Color looks like a matter of taste, but underneath the aesthetics is a well-documented science. The color wheel, harmony rules, contrast ratios, and the psychology of hue are not secrets — they are teachable, testable, and repeatable. Yet most people pick colors by feel, then wonder why a palette looks muddy or a button is unreadable. Our mission is to close that gap: to put the structure of color theory into a tool that runs in a browser tab and to explain, in plain language, the principles behind every result.

We believe a good color tool does three things: it generates palettes grounded in real harmony rules, it checks those palettes against accessibility standards before they ship, and it respects the user's privacy at every step. Every page on this site is built around that loop — explore, verify, and protect.

Methodology

Our tools and reference material follow a consistent methodology:

Editorial Standards

Articles are written by contributors with hands-on experience in design systems, accessibility, and brand work. Content is reviewed for technical accuracy against published standards — the W3C's WCAG 2.1, the IEC sRGB definition, and peer-reviewed color perception research. We avoid fear-mongering, fake urgency, and unsupported claims. Where a figure or standard is referenced — such as a contrast ratio threshold or a color-blindness prevalence statistic — we link the source in a References section at the foot of the article so readers can verify it independently.

We do not accept paid placements or sponsored links within article body content. The external references you see are curated for relevance, not for compensation.

Privacy Stance

ColorStudio runs entirely client-side. We do not collect personal data, set tracking cookies, or run analytics. Colors you pick with the live tool never leave your device. Read our full privacy policy for the details.
